New offices of Regional Fund for Environment Protection and Water Management in Gdańsk city centre. The site is located at Rybaki Górne Street, between the Old Town and the post-industrial area of Gdańsk Shipyard. Radunia river canal in the immediate vicinity became the starting point for the design process. In the past, Prussian artillery barracks destroyed during World War II were located in the area. At present, the site neighbours buildings of various design styles. It is under architectural conservation.
The design seeks reference to the historical pattern of development by establishing a frontage along Rybaki Górne Street as well as locating the building near the bank of the canal.
The project was an opportunity to create a new city block enclosing the scenery at the bend of Rybaki Górne Street. The main entrance plaza is located at the street bend.
The building was designed on the canal, with 1st and 2nd level brought closer to its bank. The ground floor terrace is integrated with the bank of the canal.
The proposed design features peripheral office accommodation and a central core including circulation and additional facilities. The glass roof allows natural light to the central zone. The building is perforated horizontally and vertically with winter gardens. Such system provides additional illumination to the core part and a conference room on the 1st floor. At the same time it offers attractive green and social spaces for employees and visitors.
Façade materials correspond with those used in the neighbourhood: dark red clinker brick, graphite window frames and concrete bands for window openings and around the entrance zone.
